Malik is very insecure when it comes to his gender, since he has been bullied for not being "a full male" during most of his childhood. This only got better when he became an adult, with people around him becoming more understanding, yet the damage was already done. Like this he mostly keeps to himself and his jewelry, only opening up for real to his boyfriends.

Malik has been bullied his entire child- and teenhood, due to him being a cboy. Like this he became a loner and didn't try to get into any relationships for until he became an adult. At a festival he then ran into Zur, another Shiji, falling in love with the glowing parts of his mane quickly, but also with the male's character. After a few meetings they went with having an on- and off relationship, giving the other intimacy whenever it was of need. Eventually though, Zur invited Malik over to a friend's place, where the younger Shiji got to know both Abies and Carol, the latter being especially interesting to him due to them both being cboys. The four Shijis agreed then on having an open, polyamorous relationship.
