Diàoyú

Even though one might think otherwise based on the image of a big cynic and a rather unpleasant, unsmiling person he projects, Diàoyu has a good heart. The problem is that he was born with the ability to hear people's thoughts. And people think a lot, a lot of stupid things... at least from his perspective. Mostly because they keep too many things to themselves, things they could just express and share to clarify so many situations ! Because our attentive and intelligent telepath quickly figured it out : unspoken thoughts are an abundant source of misunderstandings. So what's the point of words and our ability to use them to communicate, for Elders' sake ! It's... frustrating... almost a little despairing, even...

This is Diàoyu's state of mind, who ultimately wishes for just one thing : that people would speak to each other more openly. And after hearing people's thoughts bouncing off each other and turning into doubt or frustration, it's him who ends up exploding and saying out loud what people think in silence. Which isn’t always appreciated... His frankness and sharp remarks mean he doesn't have many friends (if any XD) and comes off as a big cynic with a passive-aggressive temperament. Yet, all he wants is to assist his mother in her role as a spokesperson for Qìng and a talented matchmaker. But is this role really meant for him ? The more time passes, the more he wonders. But what use could his gift possibly have in this case ?

Diàoyu is thus just a work in progress, a young shiji who is completely lost at the moment ! But he's a kind-hearted guy with a strong sense of family, as long as it doesn't involve forcing him to do stupid or ridiculous things... always from his own perspective, of course ! He would even deny having a romantic side inherited from his mother. Ahem, that's too embarrassing...
