Soulmate System
Shiji-Long are strongly driven to find their soulmates; individuals that they share a strong bond of love with. Soulmates most commonly consist of two Shiji-Long, but in rare instances may contain 3, 4, or even 5 Shiji-Long. At this time, soulmate relationships including five characters require Vashaa's consent. Soulmates may be any gender as long as both characters are consenting adults. You can read about traditional soulmate rituals here, but please note this exact ritual isn't strictly enforced when it comes to writing or drawing soulmate prompts. However, soulmates should always choose an elder, choose a gift/sacrifice for that elder, and exchange scales. Their art may be updated to reflect their new scales if desired. Characters in a completed soulmate relationship do not require any breeding vouchers or items to breed and may breed once per season.
Soulmates can be managed and tracked directly through your dashboard under My... Soulmates or by clicking here.
✧ Soulmates prompts can only be submitted through individual 'manage soulmates' pages. ✧
✧ Up to five soulmates may be submitted together, but five soulmates will require approval from Vashaa. ✧
✧ You may cancel a soulmate ritual before it is completed at any time. However, once the ritual is complete you must submit a prompt in order to cancel (anull) the soulmates. ✧
Features
Relationship Status
The 'open to link requests' icon on character profiles has been replaced with a 'relationship status' icon. There are three possible statuses: Mated, Unmated/Not Seeking, and Unmated/Seeking.
Completed Soulmates
Any soulmates that have fully completed their soulmate rituals will appear in your Soulmate Dashboard under Completed Soulmates.
✧ All soulmates that previously completed the soulmate ritual quest have been automatically added into the system. However, only their final prompt will be shown in the manage soulmates screen. Newly created pairs will show all three prompts. ✧
✧ If you had a set of soulmates that had an incomplete soulmate ritual, please resubmit that ritual through the new system. You may use the same content (pictures, writing, etc). ✧

Pending Soulmates
Any soulmates that you have added, even if they have no prompts submitted, will appear in your Soulmate Dashboard under Pending Soulmates. If your progress bar is completely empty, that means that the soulmates are in planned status but no prompts have been submitted yet.

Unmated Characters
Any characters who are not in a relationship will appear in your Soulmate Dashboard under Unmated Shiji-Long. All characters have their "Seeking Soulmate" toggle turned off by default. If you change the state of any of your characters, make sure you click "Save Changes" beneath this box to update their statuses! This will update the relationship icon on the character's profile as well.

Adding Soulmates
To add a new set of soulmates, click on "Add New Soulmates" in your Soulmate Dashboard.
✧ When you add new soulmates, no prompt is submitted. ✧
✧ Adding new soulmates places all characters in the relationship into a single/not seeking status on their profiles. It also automatically creates Soulmates (Planned) relationships between all characters. You can use this to track soulmates you are planning with other players even if you are not ready to submit prompts yet. ✧

Managing Soulmates
Each set of soulmates has their own management page. From that page you can submit the prompt for the next step in their ritual, add personal notes that only you can see, see the status of any pending submissions, or cancel the relationship.
✧ The heart between your soulmates will automatically fill up as you complete your ritual. ✧
✧ You may cancel an uncompleted soulmate ritual at any time. However, once the final prompt is completed you will need to submit an additional prompt and get approval for your soulmates to be anulled. ✧
✧ Any user with a character involved in the soulmate ritual may submit the next step. It is not restricted to the user that submitted the previous prompt. ✧

Soulmate Ritual Prompts & Requirements
You will be shown each soulmate prompt as you progress through the soulmate submission system, but in case you want to plan ahead all three prompts are listed below. Prompt length requirements are based on how many characters are included in the ritual. For 2 characters, each prompt must be 1000 words. 3 characters = 1500 words, 4 characters = 2000 words, and 5 characters = 2500 words. For art submissions, the full body of each character must be shown and a background is required, but there is not a high expectation for detail. Characters cannot be added to soulmate rituals in-progress and the entire ritual must be cancelled and re-done in order to add another character.

Tips & Tricks
Need help figuring out what to write or draw? Here are some suggestions below!
Prompt |
Writing |
Drawing |
Choose Wisely |
Your characters can discuss what elder they would like to choose and why. If your characters have any experience with any elders that help shape their decisions, they can discuss those experiences. For example, maybe they have visited a temple, maybe their parents chose a specific elder, or maybe they have interacted with some elders already. If you don't have enough to write about, you can also write about how your characters met, how their relationship formed, and tie that into how they choose their elder at the end! |
Draw your characters discussing which elder they choose. Where do they have the discussion? At home? On the road? With friends/family? Does it happen spontaneously? You can use speech bubbles to indicate which elder they select (you can even just put an elder's head with a question mark in the bubble). You might also choose to draw your characters deciding they want to complete the ritual (proposing) and indicate which elder you choose in a later prompt. |
A Sacrifice to the Gods |
Your characters can discuss what item they would like to give to the elder and why. If they choose to make an item, write about how they made the item! You can include details about how they gathered materials or what they had to do to make it. If they choose an item they already have or that they have purchased, write about how they obtained it. What city did they purchase it from? Or how did they acquire it in the past? Is it meaningful to them? Why? If you don't have enough to write about, you can choose to have them meet their elder and present their item in this part as well! |
Draw your characters creating the item they have chosen. What materials do they use? What is involved in the item's creation? Draw your characters shopping for the item they have chosen. What city are they in? What does the market look like? Draw your characters acquiring the item they have chosen (if they obtained it in an atypical way, for example from a ruin, gathering in a forest, etc). If you are struggling, you can also draw your characters presenting their item to the elder here! |
Blessed |
Your characters exchange their scales. You may choose to write about their interactions with their chosen elder in this part or the previous part. You can think of the scale exchange like a wedding ceremony. Some characters may choose to have many friends and family witness the blessing and exchange directly at the temple. Some may choose to leave the temple and have an exchange and celebration afterwards! Others may leave and do the exchange in private. Use this prompt to describe how and where your characters exchange their scales and how they feel after the ritual. If you don't have enough to write about, you can also discuss how the magic of the bond feels and impacts them once they are blessed. Perhaps they also talk about their plans for their future life together! |
Draw your characters before the elder of their choosing. Are they presenting their item? What does the blessing look like to you? Draw your characters celebrating their exchange. Do they have a big party? Are friends and family invited? What sort of decor do they have? What sort of outfits do they wear? Draw your characters having a private moment during or after their exchange. Do they go home to exchange scales? How does their exchange show off their relationship and personalities? Do they have fun with it? Or is it private and solemn? |
